Micky van de Ven found the net twice as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and delivered the Toffees their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the conclusion of last season.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman struck twice from corners in the first half to place their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien thought he had levelled the scores five minutes after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, missed a handful of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of excellent stops to ensure the London club went five away games unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, instructing Craig Pawson to check the score on the screen and the official ruled that the winger and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

This victory elevates Thomas Frank's side up to third in the Premier League, a handful of points off north London rivals and table-toppers Arsenal.

The Merseyside club remain 14th and are six points ahead of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven excels in role at each end of the field

After a drab weekday performance in the European competition against Monaco, where they managed a only two shots on goal, the manager chose Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The new arrival was unable to make much of an impact before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the field, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Defender the Dutchman converted into an attacking force to be feared.

Spurs' opening strike came from a well-worked corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball toward the face of goal for an unmarked the defender to score.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as skipper in Cristian Romero's unavailability - notched his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he rose above the England keeper to nod in.

The Dutchman was just as impressive in defence, combining well with his defensive colleague as the pair handled superbly with the 34 crosses thrown their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Everton missing striker's instinct

Everton's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it appears the novelty may have worn off slightly and supporters headed to the exits after the midfielder's final goal for Tottenham.

The end in the team's winning streak at home won't be a major concern for the manager, but their striker situation are.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' pair of established centre-forwards - had scored only one league goal combined before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to add to that poor tally on a damp and dreary night on Merseyside.

Beto's form was epitomized when he chose to overhead kick a clear chance from near the goal, despite having room and opportunity to readjust for a more conventional shot that would have tested Vicario.

The substitute, too, failed to make an impact after coming on for Beto in the second half.

It was not for a lack of chance. Most of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who relentlessly whipped threatening balls into the Tottenham box.

What next for both teams?

The Toffees: Moyes' men travel to the Stadium of Light in the Premier League on early November at 20:00 GMT.

Tottenham: The London club travel to St James' Park on late October for their next round Carabao Cup match against the Magpies.
