Comeback Medvedev Wins First Championship in Over Two Years
Nineteen of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hard courts
A resurgent the Russian player secured his maiden title for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.
Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a torrid period, winning just one win at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.
His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - led to him exiting of the top ten and eventually separating with long-time coach his previous coach.
Now training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought competitive triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.
It is Medvedev's first championship since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since spring of 2023.
Success also means he has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.
"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters together, so to get a title is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his past six finals, including in Halle in the past months.
Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused observers to wonder if his capacity to play at the highest level was concluded.
Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.
He came back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.
The competitors exchanged breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to push for a third set.
Moutet defended four early-game chances in a close deciding set before the Russian won the break to that score to secure the win.
Fittingly, he secured victory with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
